Welcome to the "Halibut Fishing Capital of the World", Homer, Alaska. The state's premier halibut sport fishing port! Halibut caught in Cook Inlet waters weigh 20-30 pounds on the average. Many caught will weigh-in at 50 to 150 pounds. A fish over 250 pounds will qualify you for an Alaska State Trophy certificate, while a halibut weighing greater than 300 pounds could win the Homer Chamber Derby. Derby tickets are available at our office. Peak season for halibut in the Homer area waters is from May to September. The only month officially closed for sport fishing halibut, is January. To help you choose the best day for your halibut fishing adventure we have supplied a very important tide chart.
